As the internship company of "Themoment information website Fourth Season of OFFER", after participating in the variety show of the construction office, the work of the founder Dong Gong was once again "reviewed" by the public.

The discussion of the lonely library, Yangshuo Sugar House, and Captain's House has risen again in social media, especially in the lonely library located in Anya, Beidaihe -2015, which has become a unknown resort attraction in 2015.The online celebrity punching land of the country's culture. At the beginning, Dong Gong was not very happy. He felt that the possibility of architecture should give people asylum and adventure. It was simply defined as an Internet celebrity, which means that it is not deep enough.

Nowadays, in the face of praise from all walks of life, an architect who has been immersed in the architectural community and has a certain degree of isolation with society has gradually reconciled with the definition of its works. He told 36 氪, "I don't care so much now, because the discussion caused by various voices itself is a sense.

In October 2022, because of the brand event of Valentino, the Anaya seaside auditorium designed by Dong Gong was brushed with bright pink. Someone asked the founder of Anaa Ma Yin. What do Dong Gong think?Ma Yin said, "He agreed in less than two minutes."

At first Dong Gong's planning for the library was the reading space of quiet, Yangchun Baixue, but the reality after delivery always exceeded his imagination.Operators, users, and natural environments have changed the appearance of the building. This is the unexpected harvest of the architect, and it also challenges the boundary of the use of space in his past experience.

Some young architectural designers in "The Fourth Offer Season 4" are more inclined to add personalized expression in the works. Dong Gong suggested that they are a path, but not the purpose. The ability of architects to have empathy with society is very important. The best building should have a relationship with the public.

Located to the Sanlitun of Beijing in Beijing, it is not in the bustling commercial office buildings, but in the old building community in the 1970s and 1980s. The team 47 (including intern), with an office area of 900 square meters.During the interview of the light of his office from natural light to the city's night light and shadow, he repeatedly mentioned a few keywords: light, emotion and anti -routing.

Dong Gong believes that light is an equal resource in front of the rich and poor."The more advanced significance of architects is to be able to turn waste into treasure by designing, and make a plain space to make noble. Instead of using the most expensive materials, to collage those pearl -ray things."

But these persistence seems to be not very related to commercialization.Dong Gong returned to China in 2008 and established a straight direction. He admitted that he was still a little shaking before the establishment of the office, and even some time, he was still thinking about whether this matter could work.

The following is the year -end planning of the 36 氪 City Channel, and the recording of the dialogue with Dong Gong (edited by the editorial festival):

01. After ten years, if you still like lonely libraries, you can discuss the meaning of Internet celebrities

36 氪:Seven years ago, you said that the lonely library was labeled with the "net red building" label. What do you think now?

Dong Gong:I am also in the process of studying the social media of the circle. The library library is well built in 2015, which is also a very important stage for me.Prior to this, architects were in a relatively closed professional circle, including Tsinghua, Tongji, Southeast, and Tianda University with enough academic high schools, as well as professional vertical media.I am very enjoyable to explore problems within the industry myself. I feel very comfortable in that circle, which is equivalent to saying that there is a buffer area with the outside world.

The social media's evaluation of the library is mixed, and there are very sharp criticisms, such as "loneliness to the extreme, boring"; there is also a sound of praise, which makes the library a phenomenon.I was not very suitable at the time. As an architect isolated by the architectural circle, I suddenly faced the diverse comments of the public. I don't know what it means.

Now I am much easier, because of the discussion caused by various voices, it is a sense in itself.Ten years ago, the buildings discussed at the social level should be historical relics, or large -scale projects of the palace, such as the Forbidden City and Bird's Nest. What is the relationship between architectural art in daily life and the lives of ordinary people, basically blank.Today, they have begun to like architecture and spontaneously check in in everywhere. This is a progress. The charm of architectural space has begun to affect the lives of daily people.

Now that you say the word "net red", I don't care so much.Recently, in the conversation with Ma Yin in Ana, we both mentioned that the net celebrity's hat must not be removed, so we strive to be an old Internet celebrity. Many net red buildings that appeared in 2015 have no sound.Anya has the overall thinking of lifestyle, community, art and culture, and we are also in a discussion of close relationships with society, which is lucky to us.Then we strive to drag this time longer. In another ten years, if everyone still likes the library, I think we can discuss the meaning of Internet celebrities at that time.

36 氪:After a building is delivered, with the use of users and naturally, it may present the changes that the architect has never thought of. Is there any impressive work in this?

Dong Gong:Of course, this is basically a law.The phenomenon contains two directions. One is negative, that is, when Party A is making a house, he does not figure out how to use it later. In the later period, due to management problems, the building is abandoned, or in a very rude way, in a very rude way,To use it, we have not encountered this situation.

The other is "positive different". Because the public likes this space and quality, Party A or operator will allow the house to produce new possibilities in use. This is not the architect in the design stageEssenceThe most prominent example is Anya's lonely library. In the middle of 2015-2019, there were three or four years. Other public spaces have not been made, and the lonely library has been carried by many functions.Sometimes art exhibitions will be held, or it becomes a space for performance. It should be the year of 2018, and the lonely library held 150 events, basically two or three days. These activities also allow us to think about how to make full use of space. For example, when performing music performances, the stairs are exactly the audience's stand.

Lonely Library Use photos

I think the good use state of a building is that the architect provides a physical and place starting point. Different users will inject a lot of imagination.Later, I also asked myself. When I started designing, I hope this is a particularly quiet and a little bit of spring and white snow, but the ever -changing use of the later challenges me as a border of space as an architect.big.

36 氪: In the planning period, how can I deal with the differences if they encounter the opinions of the owner?

Dong Gong:Because these projects experienced in recent years, we have some experience in how to locate the future state of the building.Sometimes the owner has very good expectations and vision, but it may not be practical. Therefore, we strive to get involved in a very early period, discussions on functional feasibility, and use our professional experience to influence the judgment of the owner. Our cooperation with Ma Yin will have a long discussion at the beginning.

The two or three projects that are now have undergone subversive changes. For example, the upcoming Wu Lingshan Tangquan Small Pavilion project is an open public hot spring space. In fact, at first that space was to be a library. In 2018, the lonely library became popular. From Ma Yin's perspective, he would think that the library was standard. LaterHe will also repeatedly think about the public space planning of the community.Looking down, in fact, letting a community has vitality, and it is not necessarily a library. These public spaces must be suitable for this place, with a very targeted relationship with the location, or a quality lifestyle, and energy will be released in the future. Not necessarily the library space, you can achieve unlimited success.

02. The younger generation architect needs to mobilize the relationship between architecture and society

Screenshot of Variety Show of "Essence of OFFER Season 4"

36 氪:Recently, you have participated in the recording of "The Fourth Offer Season 4". What is the difference between the young generation of architectural students and your generation?

Dong Gong:I feel some differences, but because there are only ten interns in total, I don't know if they can represent the characteristics of all generations of architects.I went to college in the early 1990s. If you ask the 1,000 people in that year, whether you are willing to really devote himself to architecture in your life. There are many reasons here. For example, architecture still requires some talents. The feedback after entering school or after work can make people know whether it is suitable for doing this. This is difficult to judge whether it is the characteristics of two generations or individuals.

From the perspective of social trends, children now pay more attention to personalized expression. Our generation has seen Van Gogh, Cezanne, John Christopher, and "How to make steel", which accepts clearlyEducation of idealism.Personal emotional or emotional expression is suppressed to some extent. For now children, their personal demands can be released more than us.In other words, personal will is becoming more and more important, and it is also respected. I think that this big trend should not be in the architectural world. It is a symbol of progress in the overall society.

36 氪:You said in the "OFFER" program that "the ultimate significance of architecture is related to commonality." Will the younger generation architect pay more attention to personalized expression and ignore the publicity of the building?

Dong Gong:This may have something to do with their stage,I am a typical idealist. But how to understand ideals? In fact, it is related to personal experience, resumes, and professional ability. We are pursuing the possibility of the best building. As I said in the show, the best building is related to the public. The architects are actually mobilizing these relationships to have the ability to empathize with the society. However, for these students studying in books, they have just entered the discipline and have not reached this stage. They may still be immersed in the artistic expression of the beauty of space and architecture. With their development, they will gradually realize that architecture and society of society and society will be gradually realized. The relationship between.

36 氪:The social discussion of young people entering the architectural design industry has always been very high, especially in first -tier cities, the salary level of newcomers is not high. Often, they need to "use love with electricity" and support the ideal support. What do you think?

Dong Gong:I think the development trend of the domestic construction industry is becoming more and more like Europe and the United States.Do not talk about the level of culture and national ideology, and talk about the industry. The development of the industry across the nation and national borders. The salary of the United States and European construction industry is also low in the social structure.Children who study architecture generally have good family backgrounds, and they are very hard to learn architecture. There are many overtime overtime in Europe and the United States.

So I think this industry has gradually had its laws.Whether in China, France, or the United States, we have gone through the era of rapid development of buildings in the first two or three decades, making this line relatively popular into a very popular industry, but development too fast means that high -quality in the city is good. There are not many buildings.

To make buildings really requires a little slower to let people who really like it do these things.Instead of once, simply because it is a popular industry, or a person has no interest in professionalism, but it can bring good income. The industry is developing in a more suitable direction, and the process will definitely have waves in the process.

I firmly believe that the significance of architecture exists forever.Although there are many digital technologies in our city, this still cannot replace a good and real space, which can give people a comprehensive and positive impact on people's lives.

03.vr can simulate the scene, but it cannot replace the sunlight on the body

36 氪:During the epidemic, the public's longing for public space was strengthened. We are in the era of the post -epidemic situation. With the changes in the emotions of the times, people's demand for space has become different. Will this affect your planning for architectural works?

Dong Gong:The epidemic has made me more firmly the understanding of the building. I think that the building has a very important significance, that is, the life, emotions of people can be linked with a specific place in the world.Important forces are an important source of life quality.Non -professional people may not be able to say, how a good space is connected to the specific life of a person and the material world, but he will feel that there is light and ventilation space very healthy, or this space is mentally mental. The atmosphere made him feel comfortable and inspired him.

The epidemic may be isolated from the real world, which is a big disturbance for our lives. Now that the control is liberalized, people are eager to enter social life faster, restore the real relationship with the real world, the sky, the earth, and nature.VR technology can simulate these scenes, but it cannot replace your feeling of breathing fresh air and sunlight.

Architects can intervene and create the influence of the physical and mental health of the real world on people, so I am still very optimistic about this industry. There is a space that can connect with people and the world to be more and more needed. Those mediocre and special functional spaces are easily replaced.

36 氪:In recent years, the startups with digital and process -based startups have developed rapidly in recent years, and the direction of the times and various industries. How to use long -termism, academic and aesthetic to cope with increasingly processed and digital industries? How to view prefabricated construction technology?

Dong Gong:There is no problem with technology itself. The key is how we understand and use technology.Under harsh climate conditions, such as winter and summer in Beijing, we can rely on technology. But in the other seven or eight months, the building has the ability to provide and mobilize better ventilation and lighting.

Prefabricated buildings can minimize the interference of the environment during the construction process, but in addition to the technical sustainability, the building also has cultural sustainability. As an important cultural carrier for thousands of years of human development, the building reflects the aesthetics and trends of each generation. Therefore, prefabricated buildings should not simply calculate a house, but also need the architect to inject the touching atmosphere and the emotion of space. If the architect gives up these and makes pure functional things, and lacks humanistic sustainability, there will be unsustainable problems.

Due to global energy issues, we have discussed too much technical sustainability. This trend at home and abroad. At extreme nodes, we seem to forget the sustainability of culture and emotion. When I taught in Europe and the United States, I also talked a little about mental and beautiful things. It seemed wrong. Many people in the architectural industry are excited about the development of technology, so they have found a new direction. Everyone does not talk about beauty. Only talk about how the building can save energy and reduce the consumption of carbon footprints. In my opinion, architecture has basic principles. Natural, human emotions, the continuation of culture, and technology are all principles. It emphasizes technology too much. There is no sense of responsibility.Looking back at it, there will definitely be a problem.

36 氪:In 2010, Tianjin Zhangjiawo Town Primary School has adopted green environmental protection measures such as geographical heat pumps, green roofs, and penetration of landscapes. Is this a compulsory requirement for the owner?

Dong Gong:In the past two or three years, we have also undertaken the project of Party A with zero energy consumption requirements. My experience is that these are not contradictory with a good building. We will ask the professional consultant team to give us opinions in the process, butIn the end, this is just a few levels of the architect considered.Low -energy -consuming houses can still have a good space atmosphere and light. It should not only solve the technical problems. It is not related to the thinking dimension of technology, and it doesn't matter. This is the values of the architect.

36 氪:Urban renewal projects often involve changing construction purposes. What are the practical difficulties in planning and design?

Dong Gong:In the renovation and updated projects, its time cycle is often longer than a new project, and the cost is higher, so at this time, many real estate developers settle their accounts from an economic perspective.Urban update is very meaningful. When you go to a historic city, the status left by the city has nothing to do with us, but you see that these spaces that have accumulated time will easily integrate into that environment and feel comfortable. That environment naturally has a quality; when you see those new cities and small saplings on the roadside, you may feel that the quality of the city space is not high.

Can a city or living environment leave traces of historical development? This is an important point for the public to have a sense of belonging in one place.I think urban renewal is a direction. Because of the requirements of urbanization, we have experienced the era of demolition and construction, and we can't care about those delicate emotions. But now everyone is more concerned about the culture and emotions between themselves with the city. Therefore, any historical neighborhood and urban fragment must be respected.

This is very important to update the meaning of the bone in the bones to build an emotional dependence. This is very important. In many projects, we also lobby to managers and Party A and try to do so, but often after a time account and investment account, we will encounter some difficulties.

36 氪:What will happen to such difficulties?

Dong Gong: In the end, Party A can still accept the projects we suggest. What impressed me was the Haixing Building of Nankai University. One of the teachers and students and alumni of the Balitai Old Campus of Nankai University provided a multi -functional assembly, exhibition, teaching and training and other functions.Cultural activity venue. It turned out that there was space in the auditorium, cafeteria, screening hall, and dance hall. At that time, the quality of the house was very poor. At the beginning, when I talked to the school and the investor to update the concept, there was a voice that it did not need to stay because it was not a historical protection building., But we still strongly recommend leaving architecture.

Because that space carries the memory of many Nankai teachers and students, some people take wedding photos and dating, all happened there. In the end, the senior leaders of Nankai also strongly suggested to leave the building. With the development of all levels of society, many decision makers are also improving, and more and more decision makers with judgment.Urban updates have become the direction of urban development advocated by the country. I think future development should be slightly easier.

04. Light resources are equal, whether the user is poor or rich

Yangshuo Sugar Hotel Photography: Su Shengliang

36 氪:Why do you always emphasize the use of light in space?

Dong Gong:Light is very important in my design. I think it is particularly interesting.Natural light is a resource that allows people to have a healthy feeling in psychology and body. Light can be portrayed poetically in the space, and light is moving. It is different from the four seasons and from morning to night.A building is fixed, but due to the role of natural light, it will give space a sense of life.

For the treatment of light, it is not simply designing a glass curtain wall to maximize natural light. It is not necessarily high -quality light. Over -lighting will cause light pollution. The cold effect. And light does not necessarily have to be direct light. Sometimes, reflection and light are reflected. It gives people different feelings.

It's free, this resource is very equal. He is not a marble for the rich. The poor can only use adobe houses. People in all parts of the world have this resource. In my opinion, the more advanced things in the design, or the more advanced significance of architects, is that you can turn waste into treasure by design and make a noble thing.Instead of using the most expensive materials, to collage those pearl and treasure to make the space achieve quality.

The key to this matter depends on whether the architect has professional ability and consciousness. What about it?

36 氪:If the building uses artificial light in large areas, is it a waste of resources?

Dong Gong: I basically do not agree with a lot of artificial light during the day. Of course, the museum is different, especially the protection of classical painting, and there is no natural light. In addition to these very technical requirements, I think all the space should try to use natural light during the day.

Sometimes you need to solve some problems, such as doing a primary school project. If the windows are not treated, the sunlight directly illuminates from the window. The child will have a glare. When you look at your own table, you will suddenly look up at the teacher and look at the blackboard.I can't see it for a while. These things can be processed. Avoid direct lighting into the tables that are reached by the window. You can have a shot of light in, but the amount of light in the light is often limited. Therefore, when shading, a reflective board can be set on the top of the sunboard. If there is a high -side window, the light will be reflected on the ceiling through that plate, which will shine in the classroom.

Therefore, using natural light will often bring a lot of problems, but through architects really understanding people's behavior, most of the cases can actually be treated, that is, it takes more design time.

05. I have thought about it, can I continue to the building?

Straight architecture (located in Sanlitun, Beijing)

36 氪:From 2008 to 2016, less than 4 items completed in the building each year. After that, the number of projects completed each year has increased slightly. How does it balance between time and design completion?

Dong Gong:We were established in 2008 and happened to be 15 years by 2023. It did go through several stages. The first six or seven years was a stage of accumulation. At that time, it was a bit shaken. Even for a while, I was still thinking about whether this matter could be done.

Take the comparison of the Beijing Courtyard, which is also involved in the "offer" this time. They are a very large platform, which is a bit like the existence of aircraft carriers. There is a guarantee that there is a self -cycle system in the system. And we need to make something in the business operation market and academic influence to establish an industry position without any other guarantees.

Probably after 2016, I feel that the office enters the project without the need to worry about me too much. It also expands the scale of nearly fifty people from the original ten people. In terms of the rhythm of the project, in the past two years, the epidemic has been greatly affected, and temporary suspension is a regular event.Although there is no problem with saturation, the progress is slowing, but our design time has become abundant.I think that after the control is liberalized, there may be a relatively large change in 2023.

36 氪:With the stability of the business model, will the size of the firm continue to expand?

Dong Gong:I don't think we will grow bigger in my heart. The principle we adhere to is that we will not do it quickly to meet the cash flow of project operations, and we don't care much about the final state of the building.Whether it is a large and small project, in terms of quality, we must strive to pursue the standards we think.

36 氪:Back to the beginning of the story, when it was established in 2008, why did it be named "straight architecture"?

Dong Gong:At that time, I didn't think so much at that time. When we started a business, we didn't know what it could be done. At that time, many small offices that were founded during the same period were that most of them had problems in the end.We are lucky, and we didn't think this name was so important at the time. But it definitely reflects some of our values, that is, it is efficient and clear to do things.

In architecture, I personally don't have so many complicated ideas. I think architecture is a very direct thing. At the establishment stage, I just returned from the United States and noticed that there are some mediocre things in the domestic architectural academic journals and the media. It is necessary to pull some other things to render the building. The name is straight from the building, which means to go straight and do a good job of building.

Now the idea has changed a bit. The architecture has complexity. I did not understand it 15 years ago. In fact, the form of the building, the logic of thinking, and the construction of the building will have a very precious, chaotic, complex, not so clear thing. These things sometimes make the building more vivid, not everything is limited to clearly. This is a different understanding of architecture at different stages. The name "straight into architecture" first represents my view in 2008.
